Purple Political Magazine. This contains 2 sample covers, a table of contents, 2 feature well openers, and 2 eight page feature stories. This was a semester long endeavor in editorial class, along with other assignments, to learn the fundamentals of editorial design.

This is a comp for a style guide I designed for H&M. It is 11 x 17 and printed on white newsprint. I wanted to keep the type simple and holiday-esqu, but with some edge. I used Bodoni, Bickham Script, and Bifurk.

School Assignment: Create a Sophmore Year Portfolio (a project required by the design dept.)
I developed a concept for my portfolio, entitled Release Me. This concept was based upon a claustrophobic feeling I acquired during the duration of my first very serious year of college. The portfolio case was designed so that as you take out each book, you must release the buckle, and a response can be read under each flap, for example, “it’s about time.” I wanted the portfolio to be interactive, so you feel as if I am there with you, even if I am not.

School Assignment: Redesign the cover of The Type Specimen Book
The book is on type… so my thoughts were, why not just focus on type for the cover? I also played with contrast in type size.

School Assignment: Limited Edition DVD Packaging. I chose the movie Network.
I wanted to keep the packaging iconic. I used concepts from the movie and creating an interesting juxtaposition between a [movie] Network, and a religious symbol that appears in the movie. The packaging takes on an interesting new shape that conforms to the DVD shape.

School Assignment: create a poster for the Birds in Flight exhibition at the Museum of Natural History
I started my process by just doodling pictures of a bird. I ended up using the lines of one particular doodle to form the shapes of letters, and created an organic and original title typeface out of the illustration.
